BACK AGAIN IN 2019: DST PRE-TEAM:

This summer we'll continue with the DST Pre-Team.  The pre-team is for those swimmers who are not quite able to swim the length of the pool, but who are close to achieving that goal.  These swimmers will likely be 4-6 years old; be able to swim at least half a length of the pool using some form of front crawl; be able to kick the full length of the pool with the assistance of a kickboard; and not be afraid of the water.  Importantly, the pre-team is NOT A SUBSTITUTE FOR SWIM LESSONS.  Rather, the pre-team is for those swimmers who aren’t quite ready for the rigors of an up-and-back swim practice.

The pre-team will practice twice each week (Tues. and Thurs.) for 45 minutes.  This group will be smaller, however, which will allow for greater individualized IN-WATER instruction and a better coach-to-swimmer ratio.  As those on the pre-team improve their skills, they will be moved to the 6 & under group.  The goal is to have every pre-teamer ready to swim the length of the pool (in a Saturday meet) by season’s end.

Evaluations for the pre-team will be conducted by the coaching staff during the first weekend of practice.  Questions: contact .

2019 PRACTICE SCHEDULE:

The practice schedule will be largely the same as last year.  While AACPS school is still in session, practices will be held at Harbor Hills pool on Saturday and Sunday mornings (i.e., June 1*, June 2*, June 8 and June 9).  Times for those Saturday and Sunday practices will be as provided below.  We also intend to have weeknight practice options during those first two weeks of June at the Eagles Passages pool; more information on that will be forthcoming.

Once school is over, practices will be held weekday mornings at the Harbor Hills pool as follows:

11 & Up (M-F): 7:50 - 8:50 am

9-10 year olds (M-F): 8:50 - 9:45 am

7-8 year olds (M-F): 9:45 - 10:30 am

6 & unders (Mon., Wed., Fri.): 10:30 - 11:15 am.

Pre-team (Tues. & Thurs): 10:30 - 11:15 am

Clinics (M-F): 11:15 - 11:45 am

* 6&under/pre-team evaluations will be done the weekend of June 1-2

VOLUNTEERS:

DST couldn’t operate without the assistance of parent volunteers.  From running the meets to organizing spirit events to having donuts at Friday practices, there’s a lot of work required to pull a swim season together.  That’s why all families are required to volunteer for (at least) three jobs during the course of the season (families who have only 6 and under swimmers only need to do one job).  If you have questions about the volunteer requirements, contact Amanda Malone at amanda.k.malone@gmail.com.
