REGISTRATION OPENS ON SUNDAY, APRIL 1, 2018.  Register online at www.daagators.org by clicking on the "Register Online" tab on the left of the page and following the prompts.

There will also be an information meeting on Sunday, April 15th at 2:30 pm at the Harbor Hills Clubhouse (1 Carson Cove, Davidsonville, MD 21035).  We will cover in greater detail the information provided below and answer any questions you may have.  New and returning parents/families are welcome! Cathy Rutkowski will also be on site to take orders and do fittings for our new suits (more on that below).

This year the registration fees will be the same for everyone (USS and non-USS swimmers alike) and will cover the usual expenses (e.g., the cost of the GASL-required AAU insurance; pool rental; and the coaches’ salaries) in addition to some new ones (e.g., fees to enter the bronze, silver, or gold meets).  Registrations received after May 15th will be assessed a $20 late fee.

Registration Date

Age group is determined by the swimmer’s age on June 1, 2018.

15-18 Boys and Girls (compete in 100 IM and 50s of the strokes)

13-14 Boys and Girls (compete in 100 IM and 50s of the strokes)

11-12 Boys and Girls (compete in 100 IM and 50s of the strokes)

9-10 Boys and Girls (compete in 100 IM, 50 freestyle, and 25s of the other strokes)

7-8 Boys and Girls (compete in 25s of the strokes)

6 and under Boys and Girls (compete in 25 meter freestyle and backstroke)

Registrants must be able to at least swim 25 meters unassisted on their front and back.

This season we are starting a new initiative: the DST Pre-Team.  The pre-team is for those 6 & under swimmers who are not quite able to swim the length of the pool, but who are close to achieving that goal.  These kids may need some help holding on to the lane line or wall but can at least swim half a length of the pool - unassisted - using some form of front crawl; be able to kick the full length of the pool with a kickboard; and not be afraid of the water.  Importantly, the pre-team is NOT A SUBSTITUTE FOR SWIM LESSONS.  Rather, the pre-team is for those swimmers who aren’t quite ready for the rigors of an up-and-back swim practice.

Like the 6 & under age group, the pre-team will practice three times per week for 45 minutes.  The pre-team will be smaller, however, which will allow for greater individualized IN-WATER instruction and a better coach-to-swimmer ratio.  The pre-team will have its own mid-season fun meet (details on that to follow). The goal is to have every pre-teamer ready to swim the length of the pool (and in a Saturday meet) by season’s end (if not sooner).

Swimmers will be assigned to either the 6 & under group or the pre-team based on evaluations conducted during the first weekend of practice (Saturday, June 2nd and Sunday, June 3rd).  Questions?  Contact: .

DST will be outfitted this year in brand new suits!  As noted above, Cathy will be at the informational meeting on April 15th to do fittings and take orders.  We will also offer some brand new DST gear options.  Cathy will be sending out more info on that shortly, including pictures, pricing, and links to the DST online store.  Get excited because the new suits are awesome!

We're still working to finalize the practice schedule, but it's tentatively scheduled as provided below.  Special thanks to the Eagles Passages community, which is generously providing the use of its pool in late May and early June so that DST can have some additional, weekday practices prior to the first meet of the year.  And, we're of course grateful to the Harbor Hills community, which will host DST for another summer of fun!

DST couldn’t operate without the assistance of parent volunteers.  From running the meets to organizing spirit events to having donuts at Friday practices, there’s a lot of work required to pull a swim season together.  That’s why all families are required to volunteer for (at least) three jobs during the course of the season (families who have only 6 and under swimmers only need to do one job).  If you have questions about the volunteer requirements, contact the team’s volunteer coordinator, Jeri Burkhardt, at jerriburkhardt@gmail.com.  Make her (thankless) job a little easier by volunteering early (and often)!
