2018 DAA Boys Lacrosse: New Season & New Commissioners

Hey Folks,

With registration now open for a week, thought this would be an opportune moment to introduce ourselves. Steven Burke and I, Joe Schweitzer, have assumed the role and responsibility of commissioner for the 2018 season.  As DAA coaches, we are privileged to share this position and maximize the positive experience of this rec lacrosse program, which has a long and rich history.  It was a very deliberate choice for us to work as co-commissioners.  We believe the spirit of this program is teamwork and service to our kids, the coaches and the great game of lacrosse.

We look forward to writing the next chapter of this program together with the DAA lax community.  We are planning a lot of cool things this year to expand and strengthen the lacrosse experience for our boys. Just thought we would share a bit of our background related to the position:

Steven Burke

  • Rockfish 2023 club lacrosse coach
  • DAA boy’s lacrosse coach Scoopers to now Middies, my son William’s 7th season
  • UA Flag Football Commissioner
  • DAA Board member
  • Father Judge High School Ice Hockey coach
  • High School and NCAA ice hockey and lacrosse player

Joe Schweitzer

  • DAA boy’s lacrosse coach Scoopers to now Middies, my son JoJo’s 6th season
  • DAA girl’s lacrosse coach, Sticklettes to Juniors, my daughter Bella is now a 9th grader at Spalding
  • Part-time leadership coach for Division I men’s and women's lacrosse team leaders (UMass, Yale, Ohio State, Johns Hopkins, Princeton, Northwestern, Navy, UMD)
  • Navy lacrosse camps operations coordinator and coach, 2000-2012
  • Asst. lacrosse coach Chaminade High School 1999 (my alma mater in Long Island)
  • Navy lacrosse player 1986-1989

The bottom line is we both love to be part of sports teams and help organizations grow. We want to do just that this season. It will take a lot of work but will also be a lot of fun. Hope you we see you and your son out on the field.
