Player Evaluation Nights – 2026–2027 Season

Davidsonville Football Club (DFC) invites players interested in the 2026–2027 travel season to attend our Travel Team Tryouts/Player Evaluation Nights this May.

DFC is committed to creating a positive, player-centered development environment led by experienced coaches who focus on long-term growth, confidence, and love of the game. Our evaluation process is designed to give players multiple opportunities to demonstrate their abilities in a supportive but competitive setting.

These sessions allow our coaching staff to evaluate players in a training and game environment, while also giving families the opportunity to experience the DFC coaching philosophy, training standards, and club culture.

We encourage players to attend both evaluation sessions for their age group so coaches can gain a more complete understanding of each player’s ability, attitude, and potential.

DFC travel programs field multiple teams within an age group when player numbers allow, creating appropriate developmental environments for a range of players.

Players from all clubs and playing backgrounds are welcome to attend.

Grade-Year Alignment

Beginning with the 2026–27 seasonal year, U.S. Soccer is transitioning away from birth-year team formation and aligning teams with the school-year calendar (August–July).

This change is designed to:

• Keep classmates and friends playing together
• Better align soccer with the school experience
• Support long-term player development
  
   

At Davidsonville FC, players will be evaluated and placed based on both grade alignment and developmental readiness, ensuring every player is training and competing in the environment that best supports their growth.

Players are encouraged to attend both sessions for the best evaluation experience.

Additional sessions may be scheduled if weather or attendance requires adjustments.

What Happens at Tryouts

DFC tryouts are designed to reflect our player development philosophy while allowing coaches to evaluate players in realistic game situations.

Sessions typically include:

• Arrival - dynamic warm-up and technical activation

• Small-sided games

• Tactical exercises and positional play

• Expanded gameplay for older age groups

Our coaching staff evaluates players based on:

• Technical ability

• Game awareness and decision-making

• Coachability and attitude

• Motor development and work rate

• Team play and communication

Our goal is always to place players in an environment where they can grow, compete, and enjoy the game.

April Player Identification Sessions

Throughout April, DFC will also host Player Identification Sessions.

These sessions allow interested players to train with a current team prior to tryouts and experience the DFC training environment.

These sessions are especially useful for players who:

• Are exploring new club opportunities

• Want to meet coaches before tryouts

• Cannot attend one of the May tryout nights

Due to limited training space, advance registration is required.

Players should complete the online tryout registration form prior to attending.
